LE MERIDIEN VILNIUS Celebrated The V Golf Club 2011 Season Closing
The V Golf Club Breaks New Ground in Lithuanian Golf
The V Golf Club held its annual Season Closing Tournament on Saturday October 22nd and at the same time announced a brand new vision for golf in Lithuania.
56 players participated in the event in beautiful weather on a fantastic autumn's day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the quality of the course in a Triple'n'Touch, 2 person scramble event that was hailed as a huge success. There were hot dogs, whisky tasting, delicious Irish stew and Shepherd's Pie for all to enjoy as well as some traditional Irish music.
The prizes available included a fantastic 2 weeks luxury accommodation at destinations from Thailand, USA or Europe donated by Vilnius Golf & Spa Resort, a 5 day golf trip to Northern Ireland including flights & accommodation and weekend golf trips to Sweden, Norway and Finland, donated by discoverireland.com, North & West Coast Lines Ireland, Vanajan Linna Golf & Country Club and Miklagard Golf. The winners were Irma Urnikyte and Mindaugas Markevicius with a fantastic score of 62 ¼ which is almost an astonishing 10 under par net. They only narrowly beat the father & son pairing of Kestutis & Ignas Serpytis (63 ¼ ) with Vytautas Stukas & Egidijus Slanina in third place (65 ¾ ). During the Prize Ceremony Director of Golf, Folke Nyberg, announced a brand new membership scheme introduced for the sole reason of making golf affordable to all in Lithuania making the growth of the game much more possible.
The schemes are called the "Tour Card" & "Rookie Golfer" membership. For just 600 and 700 litas respectively you can become a member of the V Golf Club. In addition you will pay 50% of the regular green fee, the Rookie Golfer must complete their Golfer's Licence first. LE MERIDIEN VILNIUS was proud to host teams of the EuroBasket 2011
Le Meridien Vilnius hotel was honored to be the host of the 11 basketball teams participating in the 37th men's European Basketball Championship in 2011. The hotel offered its valuable guests a wide range of leisure and sports facilities to relax before or after the basketball games, including an extensive indoor swimming pool, saunas, spacious fitness club, golf training academy and 18-hole PGA design golf course.
The popular, successful Finnish National basketball team together with the Head Coach Henrik Detterman visited The V Golf Club last Sunday morning. The team was invited by the club's Director of Golf, Mr. Folke Nyberg, who is Finnish, and Head Professional Yiannis Tsioukanis to relax after the tiring practice session. Members of the team showed impressive talent on the driving range, enjoyed the good weather and this experience surely gave them energy for the game against the Slovenian national team on Monday.
The event ended with a putting competition won in play off by Gerald Lee Jnr against Tuukka Kotti. Gerald sank a 9m putt for birdie on the third extra hole and it was very impressive.
All teams enjoyed staying in our hotel for the whole week and on Tuesday, September 13th, 8 teams left to Kaunas to play in the final rounds.
